Six Nations Rugby

Obviously we're a club of dedicated Hockey professionals who eat, drink, breath and sleep
the game.... apart from Saturday afternoons it would appear sometimes. Anyway, there
are a few who also like odd shaped balls so to assist those who look at the fixtures and
think "does that clash with the Rugby?", here's a timetable. Coming off the back of the
World Cup when some nations flattered to deceive, some exceeded all expectations and
others were just abject failures, it should be an interesting tournament as the Northern
Hemisphere showcase....

All games are on BBC (SKY needed the money to seal an exclusive deal to televise us this
season but fell short of our asking price).

Rugby will NOT be accepted as an excuse to drop out of any of our games!

The other thing is that I take NO responsibility for these times being correct, but I have
copied them in good faith.

Di Neeves Memorial Hockey Game and Fun Day.

Saturday 19th April 2008, starting at 2pm.
The day is starting with a couple of games of hockey, open to any ability, the more the
better, come and give it a go! (although numbers may have to be restricted if we get too
many!)

There will be bouncy castles for the kids plus big bouncy castles for the bigger kids!!
BBQ with salads, Raffle and Tombola and of course the bar will be open all day!!

The day is being organised to remember Di Neeves who unfortunately lost her life to
cancer last year and was a big part of Marden Hockey Club, the proceeds raised will be
evenly donated to Cancer Research UK and CLIC Sargent (Caring for Children and Young
People with Cancer).

The day will cost just £12 for adults and £3 for children, please could you forward this to
anyone you know who maybe interested in coming a long and supporting Cancer
Research UK and bringing everyone together for a really fun day for adults and children.

Let either myself or Pidge know how many tickets you would like at

Marden's very own Super Saturday - 15th March

To tie in with the climax to this year's 6 nations rugby (see below), we can offer you the
joys of the Vets starting off at 10.30 by hosting Maidstone, 3s taking on neighbours SV at
12 noon, followed by the 1s playing Blackheath in what is another crucial game in their
fight to stay up.

When that finishes, we'll have the England v Ireland game on in the clubhouse, k.o. 3pm
so we'd like to see as many as possible turn out to support the 1sts and then swell the
takings in the bar afterwards. This weekends results mean the Twickenham game is a
decider to see which Coach keeps their job rather than anything to do with the actual
Championship but it should still be a big occasion.
KENT HOCKEY SURVEY

Dear  Hockey Club,

An independent study has been designed to understand the motivations of players -  as
to why they choose one club over another to be a member - within Kent's 'Hockey'
boundaries. This can range from location of club to level of competitive hockey. The
results of the study will help to determine such factors as player loyalty V personal
development or social V membership fees when considering club affiliation. Please could
you encourage your members to answer the 3 minute survey from the links below by
adding them to your clubs webpage, by captains email list if that is your preferred
system or posting the links on your club notice board. In understanding player migration
across the county, we may be able to determine areas club managers could find useful
in their quest for increasing membership. Please save the above email address, as
results of the survey (not players views, only demographics and reasons ie
geographical, coaching, membership fee etc) will be open to view after collation in May
2008, if you wish to view them.

As a gesture of thanks I have obtained a 10 % discount from Cotswold Outdoor, an
Outdoor clothing and equipment specialist company. All that take part will find the code
at the end of the survey. (Stores are located in Orpington, Maidstone and Tunbridge
Wells)

If you are not the correct contact, in this context,  then please accept my apologies for
this mail and pass it on to the relevent member. Email addresses have been taken from
your club website and Kent HA.

Many thanks for your support to this study.

Richard Young

BBC show live coverage of Olympic Qualifier Sunday 9th March
Great Britain Hockey is delighted that the BBC arranged live coverage of the final in the
crucial Olympic Qualifiers in Santiago, Chile.

The match was shown via the digital red-button platform and saw GB defeat India 2-0 to
secure a place in Beijing, where they will be joined by GB Ladies who had already qualified.
