rant from the sidelines!
We are all members of this wonderful club because we all enjoy a game of hockey at
the weekend - win, draw or lose, it's all part of the day alongside the beers in the
clubhouse afterwards and the aching limbs on a Sunday.

However, making sure we have a game of hockey to play on the Saturday takes
some organisation - fixtures don't just happen and sides don't miraculously appear
from thin air. Although you may not be a captain, we all have a responsibility to our
club colleagues to help make sure games can take place week in, week out. We are
not on professional contracts and no-one is legally obliged to play every week
(thankfully in some cases) but no players means no teams and it's no fun when we
travel to a game knowing we will start at a numerical disadvantage because we're
short. True, most of us will have work and personal commitments throughout the
course of a season but they tend to be known well in advance and let's face it, we
have all our fixtures for the season on this website. If you are not going to be around,
let someone know before you're selected! Likewise, if you get an e-mail or phone call
asking you to play, answer it ASAP! Believe me it's not enjoyable on a Thursday
night when you have only 7 definite players and 4 others 'waiting to confirm'.

We are a social bunch and we do like to win but the bottom line is that we want to
have fun playing our sport...so please do your bit to help!

FROM THE CHAIRMAN
It is always a problem in any club to find willing volunteers to take up the various
offices needed to make things happen, thus ensuring the club runs smoothly.
The General Committee met last night to discuss two important offices that will
require filling, club secretary and treasurer. Some of the more observant will have
noticed that Amanda (Club Secretary)is about to have a baby and is now unable to
carry out her duties and David Eltingham (the treasurer and backbone of the club),
who is just doing too many roles and wishes to relinquish some of his input. He will
still act as "general manger" helping anyone who takes on some or all of the vacant
duties.
As a club we are presented with the following options:
To find volunteers for both positions within the club. Before you glaze over, neither of
these positions on their own are too onerous. It is quite rewarding, in many ways to
do these jobs, which actually require little time and in this instance have the luxury of
David behind them.
If we get no response our second option is to pay an honorarium, perhaps for one
person to cover all the duties, again with David overseeing them. This is not your
committee's preferred option as this will cost the club, i.e. you, money through your
subs but we will shortly have a situation which must be addressed and a decision
must be made.
Maybe there is a club member's spouse or partner who might be interested if there
was a small financial incentive? Alternatively you the members may have some better
ideas? Like many clubs these days it is becoming increasingly difficult to get
members to give up their precious time to fill the various offices. However please,
when you next play, try to remember Marden Hockey and Cricket is not just a leisure
facility but your club where you can choose how it's run and what that will cost.
CB
No apologies for mentioning  YET again..SUBS AND
REGISTRATION FORMS

So far only three registration forms produced for new players. Surely the 1st XI and
Vets have lots of new people that need to get their address on database!
Registration forms available in the Club. However beware the Subs Sec. enforcer
could soon be tapping on your door.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Members are reminded that hockey subscriptions are now overdue. To avoid any
embarrassment forgetting to pay can cause, please send your sub by post to Nigel
Kittermaster or hand a cheque over the bar at anytime.£84 for adults and £42  For
uni students or part time employment( age 18-22)
Nigel's address is :-
2 Meadow Way
Marden
Kent
TN12 9TH
It would also help if old hockey players coming out of retirement to play for the vets or
new players to the club this season could fill in one of the 06-07 season Senior
Hockey Registration forms available in the Clubhouse so that we can fulfil our
Licensing obligations and keep our membership database up to date.
Support your Ladies 1st XI
This weekend, 25th November the Ladies have their first home game in 4 long weeks.
Any supporters would be most welcome, especially the noisy type.  It seems that every
away match we go to they have a small army of spectators, coaches, physios.....
The game starts at 12.30 so if you can get along and lend your support, it would be
appreciated
Club Day Saturday 30th December
Come and shift some of the season's excesses at the Marden Russets club day on
Saturday 30th December from 12 noon.  All players, male and female, aged 14 and
over are welcome to come along and have a few games.  And the bar will be open.

which leads us nicely on to........
